On Saturday they finally surrendered it when their second straight defeat, a 2-1 loss to champions BAA Wanderers, knocked them out of first place.

Steve Irvine netted both goals for Wanderers while Ralph Scott scored for Fire who slipped from first to fourth in the standings.

Now the top of the table has familiar look about it with BAA and Robin Hood, the top two teams last season, occupying the same two places.

They are tied on 17 points, one ahead of Fire, with Hood leading the division after their 6-0 thrashing of St. George's All-Stars gave them the top spot by one goal over Wanderers.

Simon Turner (2), Scott Foster (2) and Colin McQueen were among the scorers for Robin Hood.

Just one point separates the top four teams after Lobster Pot also took advantage of Fire Service's loss to join them on 16 points with a 2-1 win over MR Onions. Niall Moffat scored both Pot goals while Gary Knight replied for Onions.

The other two matches ended in draws with Ireland Rangers allowing Spinning Wheel to come back from 3-0 down at the half to draw 3-3 while North Village Rams and Mariners drew 2-2.

Dennis DeRosa, Troy Berkeley and Keith Bremar netted for Ireland Rangers while Keith Bell, Des Minors and Michael Richardson replied for Spinning Wheel.

Kenny Thompson scored both Rams goals in their draw with Mariners, for whom John Frias and Arthur Bean (own goal) were the scorers.

In Group B, leaders Prison Officers remain unbeaten after a 3-1 win over Devonshire All-Stars. Charlie Fox, Michael Lambe and Denton Leader scored for Officers while Stan Bean replied for the All-Stars.

The tie for second place, one point back, was broken when Forties hammered Somerset Extros 4-0. Belco beat Valley 2-1 with Eversley Lewis scoring one of the Belco goals and Earl Pringle replying for Valley who also had Kevin Isaac and Ashton Thomas sent off.

Wolves Pack and Exiles drew 4-4 with Antoine Cannonier netting a hat-trick for Exiles and Blane Tucker getting the other.
