New home found for racing clubs
go-karters with news that homes have been found for both groups.
Sports Minister Dennis Lister yesterday revealed that Number One Gate at Kindley Field had been earmarked as a site to house Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) and Bermuda Karting Club.
"There are some bridges that have to be crossed and things that must be sorted out,'' said Lister, who has been in contact with BMRC since they were ordered to vacate their Southside Raceway course by the middle of this month.
"But the Number One Gate property in the final breakdown will fall under the Ministry of Sport, and once this actually takes place we will look at it in terms of finding homes for motorcycling and go-karting.'' BMRC had proposed using the Kindley Field venue if they couldn't find a purpose built venue of their own, but had clearly become antsy with the mid-November `eviction' deadline approaching.
Lister explained that decisions on any such accommodation could not be made in haste, but had to go through certain channels.
"This is something that all parties are aware of, it's just a matter of going about it using proper procedures,'' continued the Minister. "It's not something that happens overnight and we can't just jump up tomorrow and say `here it is'.
"Everybody knows that that will be their new home. I would be strangely surprised to hear them say that they don't know where their permanent home will be.''
