Famed American gospel artists Bebe and Cece Winans "will take you there" finally.

The Grammy Award-winning duo will perform a special reunion concert in Bermuda on Wednesday.

A scheduled performance here last month was cancelled due to a hurricane that was threatening the Island.

The special concert will go ahead this week at the Heritage Worship Centre on Dundonald Street.

The brother and sister gospel duo parted ways in 1995 to pursue solo careers.

Last year, they came together again to produce the album 'Still'.

"This is their first major concert as Bebe and Cece Winans in 13 years," said Kevin Bean, who is assisting Alexa Lightbourne. of Noelle Entertainment in producing the show. "They are known as one of the best duets ever. It is a huge coup to have them here in the midst of their tour. You don't get to see groups like this every day."

Miss Lightbourne said she was excited to have the duo come to Bermuda.

"Bebe and Cece Winans are legendary artists," she said. "I am a big fan. They are two of my favourite artists.

"They are inspirations to the up-and-coming gospel artists in Bermuda."

Bebe and Cece Winans are known for many gospel songs including 'Up Where we Belong' , gospel chart topper 'Close to You', 'Grace' and 'I'll Take You There' with Mavis Staples.

Their list of achievements includes five Grammy Awards, eight Dove Awards, two National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image awards and two Soul Train Music Awards.

Their debut performance was back in the 1980s as youngsters in the group 'PTL Singers' on the popular Christian television programme 'Praise the Lord' with Jim Bakker.

Organiser Miss Lightbourne is currently studying law at Queen Mary University of London, in the UK.

She got her start as a concert organiser as a former Miss Teen Bermuda.

"This is the second concert that I have produced and the first major one," she said.

Miss Lightbourne said she has learned that organisation is the key to a great concert.

"Very often people just sit in the audience and think this is something anyone could do," she said. "But hard work and labour are very important to the success of the concert.

"Deadlines are important. Being last minute, although a norm in Bermuda, is not an option. You have to be on time. You have to be very organised."

Miss Lightbourne said she herself has a background in music as she played several different instruments in high school.

Mr. Bean said Ms Winans had been very supportive of Miss Lightbourne, and the concert.

"She is very sorry that she had to postpone it," said Mr. Bean. "She has been calling the local radio and television stations to promote it. She understands that postponing a show can cause a little hesitation.

"I think that shows how much of a wonderful person she is outside of being an artist."

The concert will include a full band with background vocals. Also performing are the gospel group Trinity 5:7 and former American Idol singer George Huff.

Rising local singer, Tricray Astwood and the Seventh-day Adventist Mass Choir will also perform.

Doors will open at 6.30 p.m. and the concert will start at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Heritage Worship Centre at 59 Dundonald Street, Hamilton.

Tickets purchased for the August concert are still valid. Additional tickets can be purchased for $75, from People's Pharmacy and the Christian Bookstore.
