Man fined $1,000 for using offensive words
A 19-year-old Southampton man who called a female Police officer a "bitch" was fined $1000.
Mikhail Butterfield of Riviera Road pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Friday to using offensive words.
The court heard from Crown prosecutor Cindy Clarke that Butterfield was on a bus Thursday night.
When the driver reached the Bus Terminal in Hamilton, he found Butterfield asleep on the floor.
Police were called to wake him. Butterfield became agitated and started shouting: "Where's my phone bitch. You're all f*****g bitches. You all f**k off."
He appeared to be intoxicated, Ms Clarke added.
Butterfield said on Friday: "The reason why I was intoxicated was because I buried somebody yesterday and I went to the wake and I was intoxicated. I was drinking because of that reason.
"I just found out a friend of mine got shot away. I just apologise. I know I shouldn't be drinking."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave Butterfield a week to pay the $1000 fine.
