PLP promises on affordable housing

The Progressive Labour Party (PLP) election promises on affordable housing:• A PLP Government will take early steps to alleviate the suffering of families as a result of inadequate housing. (1998)• We will fully utilise the amount of housing stock available, through the programmes of the Bermuda Housing Corporation, to alleviate the current affordable housing shortage. (1998)

• A PLP Government will take early steps to alleviate the suffering of families as a result of inadequate housing. (1998)

• We will fully utilise the amount of housing stock available, through the programmes of the Bermuda Housing Corporation, to alleviate the current affordable housing shortage. (1998)

• Review existing stock of housing on former base lands, with a view to assessing their suitability for residential use. (1998)

• Review the Government Housing Allowance Programme to ensure that it supplements rents which exceed one quarter of monthly family income. (1998)

• Review and consider providing incentives to make it attractive for private developers to invest in housing for lower and middle income families. (1998)

• Review and consider incentives for private owners to rehabilitate derelict housing. (1998)

• A PLP Government will aim to facilitate as many Bermudians as possible to become homeowners. We will take early steps to extend the life of amortised mortgages provided by the Bermuda Housing Corporation to cover 30 to 40 years. (1998)

• The Bermuda Housing Corporation is currently exploring the feasibility of various forms of non-traditional building methods, as well as non-traditional complexes. (2003)
