Footballer still in critical condition
Footballer Gabriel Wilkinson was yesterday afternoon said to remain in a critical condition at Boston Lahey Clinic.
The Somerset Eagles goalkeeper, aged in his mid 20s, suffered horrific head injuries in an accidental collision at White Hill Field on Sunday.
His parents are said to be at his side as he bids to recover from a fractured skull and swelling on the brain.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened when the knee of an opponent from Ireland Rangers struck Mr. Wilkinson on the head.
Mr. Wilkinson is a physical education teacher at the Berkeley Institute and a track and field athlete, winning medals and breaking national records for throwing.
His father Garry Wilkinson represented Bermuda in the 1978 Commonwealth Games, and is considered one of the Island's finest long distance runners.
No update was available from the hospital after 5 p.m. Bermuda-time yesterday.
