Caisey Family hints at end of an era

June Caisey poses with her daughter Phiemma and grandson Desta (Zion) Wilson.

Four generations of the talented June Caisey Family of entertainers were on stage at City Hall Theatre on Sunday for the Caiseys' 11th Annual Christmas Charity Concert.

And according to the producer of the show, Phiemma Caisey Wilson, it may well be their last.

When she made the announcement from the stage it was met with a collective "Can't Be ... Oh, No"! reaction from disbelieving sections of the audience.

Phiemma explained afterwards that individual 'Caiseys' will continue performing in small units, but it's a different situation when it comes to a big family production.

That is a shame, because their 90-minute show on Sunday was fantastic.

It was billed as a tribute to "Three Greats", Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson, with one or another of the Caiseys rendering their works.

The matriarch of the Caisey Family, of course, is June Caisey. She has been in the entertainment spotlight for more than a half century, for many years performing nightly at one spot or another.

June was as sparkling as ever when she teamed up on Sunday with Gene Steede, the entertainer known locally and internationally as Bermuda's Natural Resource.

They sat on the stage sentimentally rendering the piece, "You Are The Sunshine of My Life".

It turned out to be a reminiscence of how they with others hit the entertainment circuit together in their late teens and early twenties some 50 years ago.

The concert was for the benefit of the charity, Summer Haven.

It was also "in loving memory of Antonio (Tony) Dill": Tony was June's husband who died suddenly last month.

He was the longtime, competent keyboard player in the family band.

June Caisey at the urging of her family left the day after the concert to spend the Yuletide and a well-deserved rest in Florida with friends.
