Island Jehovahs meet at Whitney Institute

A crowd of 552 assembled from throughout Bermuda for the "Doer's of God's Word'' convention held at the Whitney Institute Auditorium last weekend.

The Keynote talk on Friday, the first day of the convention was "Praise Jehovah-the doer of wonderful things.'' Speaker Michael Jones strengthened the faith of the believers by emphasising Biblical examples of God's power exercised in behalf of his worshippers.

Reasons for gratitude, including the superlative manifestation of God's love found in connection with the gift of his only begotten son, were highlighted.

The audience was thus encouraged to continue strengthening their spirituality, withstanding "the insidious pressures exerted by the wicked world.'' Practical guidance from the originator of the family was provided in the symposium "Be obedient to God's Word.'' Brandon Doars discussed the Bible's direction in the selection of a marriage mate, one of the most serious decisions we can make.

Information was provided for those striving to build strong families, including those in single-parent households.

The third talk of the symposium, by Diek Tucker, implored all parents present to find the time to train their children to love God.

On Saturday, an enthusiastic crowd of 613 witnessed the ordination of 11 new ministers.

Speaking on the theme "Baptism for Dedicated Doers of the Word,'' Trevor Tucker from Hamilton said: "Commendably, you have already accomplished much as a doer of God's Word.'' Later he reminded them: "Baptism is only the beginning of dedicated sacred service, not the final goal.'' They were encouraged to fulfil their ordination as ministers, preaching fully as their circumstances allow.

Following the discourse, the candidates were baptised in symbol of their dedication to Jehovah God.

Over the past three years an additional 1,000,000 new disciples of Jesus Christ have been baptised as Jehovah's Witnesses.

In the afternoon, the audience listened with rapt attention to the illuminating discourse "Walking in the Progressive Light of God's Word,'' given by John Lee.

The discussion centred on the Bible Book of Isaiah and its fascinating prophesies.

After establishing the similarities between Isiah's time and our time, the speaker then addressed the reasons we have to find joy within the fulfilment of his numerous prophesies.

Thus the stage was set for the release of the first volume in a two-part set entitled: Isiah's Prophecy- Light for all Mankind! The audience confirmed by enthusiastic applause their heartfelt desire to closely examine this new book.

On Sunday, 726 participants gave rapt attention to Llewellyn Emery as he reviewed questions posed to the ancient man Job for which scientists, some 3,500 years later, still hold no firm answers.

The mystique of gravity, light wind, snow and other natural forces were shown to be among the wonderful works of our wise and powerful God.

The audience was encouraged to be attentive to all his works and reminded that soon the Doer of these wonderful works will act in a wonderful way "and his glory will fill the whole Earth.'' Another highlight of the day's program was the dramatic presentation directed by Wein Lindsay of Somerset, entitled "Warning examples for our day.'' The drama was a reenactment of what took place on the plains of Moab, just prior to Israel's entrance into the Promised Land.

It stressed the need to keep God's promises to the fore while avoiding fleshy enticements and unbridled curiosity, which can lead one down the path to outright rebellion against God.

By their spontaneous applause, the crowd expressed their determination to benefit from this warning example and thus preserve their precious relationship with God.

Sunday's program concluded the three day convention held at the Whitney Institute Auditorium.

The faithful heard instruction and encouragement in connection with this convention to be held in 63 cities throughout the US this summer.
