Pressue pays off for champion boyz

College Boyz win 4-3 on penalty kicks College Boyz were last night crowned champions at the final of the Kenny Thompson Seven-A-Side soccer tournament, but required penalties to do so after an exhilerating final against Dandy Town.

Dandy Town took the early lead in the third minute when Paul Cann squeezed in a Walter Musson left-wing corner at the near post.

Boyz appeared a little lethargic at the beginning, however they gradually worked their way into the match with Richard Scott announcing his presence in the ninth minute with a dipping shot from 18 yards that Dandy Town goalkeeper Tim Figureido did well to save.

Town returned the favour a minute later, as Andre Hendrickson had to produce a fingertip save, turning away a Troy Lewis scorcher.

The first half was littered with end to end action. Dandy Town dominated early, but it was Boyz applying late pressure.

Corey Hill was the main instigator in several ways and was aided by Damon Wade and Keimon Lawrence, while Sean Smith, Musson and Paul Cann worked tirelessly for the Hornets.

The pattern changed after the interval as Boyz took command, pinning their opponents on defence and creating a feeding frenzy around the goalmouth.

The all important equaliser finally came for Boyz off a free kick 23 minutes into the final half, where Lawrence struck a low drive from 25 yards and Hill -- situated directly in front of the goalkeeper -- dummied the ball, befuddling Figureido as the ball bounded into the back of the net.

North Village captured the Under-12 crown with a 3-1 demolition of Crossroads in the curtain-raiser. Two first half goals by Steven Simmons and one by Daniel Jennings sealed the win with Crossroads getting late consolation through Rickey Saltus who blasted home a volley of 35 yards.
