New Indian restaurant to open
there is a niche market in Bermuda for a new business specialising in Indian food.
Mrs. Rodrigues, sole owner of The House of India said the business should open by the end of July.
The business, to include a take-out restaurant, food store and Indian videos, is located in the Park View Plaza on North Street near the Transport Control Department.
"Since starting, many people have said they cannot wait for the business to open,'' said Mrs. Rodrigues.
Two Indian chefs will prepare food in an open kitchen using a tandoor oven shipped from England.
Indian food is very popular in England and is gaining in popularity Mrs.
Rodrigues.
The food items are authentic, coming to Bermuda from India via wholesalers in the US.
In future, the business may include fresh Indian vegetables.
Start-up costs were estimated at between $75,000 and $100,000, said Mrs.
Rodrigues, who will continue to manage the House of Flowers.
"With the number of florists operating in Bermuda I feel I have reached a certain level with the House of Flowers and that it was time to take on a new challenge.''
