Man beaten and robbed of jewellery
A man suffered a double broken jaw during a vicious chain-snatching attack at a city bar last week, police revealed yesterday.A spokesman said the 33-year-old victim was assaulted around 12.30am on Wednesday, September 19, at the Beach Bar and Bistro, Front Street, Hamilton.A spokesman said: “The victim was socialising with friends when he was set upon by a group of men who assaulted him and robbed him of jewellery around his neck.“The victim suffered a fractured jaw on both sides of his face. As a result he underwent surgery to repair the injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”He said two men from Pembroke have been arrested and detectives are keen to speak to anyone at the bar that night who may have witnessed the incident or have information.Invited to comment, Jeremy Paris, the manager on duty at the venue that night said: “It wasn’t seen or brought to my attention.“It was a quick thing to have happened for me not to see it. I don’t know what took place with the gentleman. I was told by my security (staff) that it happened outside. Nothing happened inside.”Mr Paris said security has been stepped up as a result, and a new team of guards will be brought in.Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation should call Detective Sgt James Hoyte at the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-TIPS (8477).
