Seminar offers public speaking tips from the pros

We’ve heard it a thousand times — that the average person fears public speaking more than they fear death. Cliché or not, the fear of speaking in public is a very real fear — one many never get over.But BEPRO, promoters of the popular ‘Lunch ‘N Learn’ series, hope to help business professional kick that fear to the curb with their new seminar, “Let your voice be heard: public speaking tips from the pros”.BEPRO (Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals) will host the event on Thursday, September 27 from 12 to 1pm at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.Featured at the event is guest speaker, Kimberley D. Caines, CC, who will educate attendees on the fundamentals of public speaking and provide tips to guide attendees on their path to becoming more powerful public speakers.Bermudian born and raised, Ms Caines holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Women’s Studies and Spanish from the University of Western Ontario.She completed her Law Degree and the Bar Vocational Course at the City Law School in London, England.She is a member of the Bermuda Bar and the Bar of England and Wales.Ms Caines currently works as an associate with the law firm, MJM Limited, in the Litigation Department where she practices civil litigation.Ms. Caines is also a Toastmaster with the Local Chapter, having achieved the competent communicator award.Most recently, she was the Chairperson of Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals (BEPRO) for the 2011 to 2012 year.As a lawyer and with her various extra-curricular activities and accomplishments, communicating and public speaking go hand in hand for Ms Caines.In a statement, BEPRO said they hope that at the conclusion of the presentation all attendees will have the necessary tools to confidently speak in public about any topic.BEPRO is a division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce that strives to assist in the professional development of its membership.The seminar is free to members, $10 for non-members and a light lunch is included.For more information or to RSVP for the event, please contact Velina Wheatley at vwheatley@bcc.bm or call 295-8932
