Man who broke bail curfew is remanded in custody

A man charged with taking part in a brawl at a gas station yesterday had his bail revoked for not complying with a court-ordered curfew.Umdae Woolridge, 21, pleaded not guilty in October to charges of causing wilful damage, causing grievous bodily harm and causing actual bodily harm after an early morning fight on August 12 at the Tiger Mart Esso station, on Richmond Road. While Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo had released Mr Woolridge and five other defendants in the matter on $3,000 bail with a like surety, the court heard yesterday that he had repeatedly failed to comply with a 10pm to 6am curfew.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan told the court that police had repeatedly visited Mr Woolridge’s home while the curfew was in effect. On three occasions, they were told that he was not home, while on several other occasions no one answered the door.Mr Woolridge said that on one occasion he left to return his son to the child’s mother. On another occasion he said his vehicle had been stolen, and on another he had been involved in a traffic collision. However Mr Tokunbo said he did not believe Mr Woolridge’s story, remanding him into custody.
