Runner is ahead of the pack

In full flight: Taylor-Ashley Bean.

Front Street Miler Taylor-Ashley Bean is ahead of the pack and plans to stay there. During a recent interview, she shared what inspires her and what is needed to be a good runner. Taylor-Ashley is currently a student at Warwick Academy. She has been running for 13 years. The distance runner mentioned it is the drive and the excitement of running that keeps her going. You can tell by speaking with her, she truly loves running.

The best thing about running for Taylor is, "The awards, and the excitement of the competition!" When asked who introduced her to running she stated, "Well basically my daddy (Wayne Bean) because he was an athlete. He took me running." Her older sister also runs and attends St. Johns University. There truly is an ongoing legacy throughout her household. Taylor-Ashley ran her first race at only three years old.

She finds training to be hard work but enjoys it and gave the advice that: "You have to be hard working, ambitious and open minded. If you have a good attitude towards what you're doing you'll get a better outcome."

Taylor was the first Bermudian to cross the line in the Senior Girls' division of the 2010, Front Street Mile race, bettering her third-place 2009 performance. Reflecting back on that night, she mentioned: "It was a joyous feeling. I remember feeling happy and satisfied."

Taylor's coach, Gerry Swan had her training everyday from 4:30pm to 7pm. "Sometimes we didn't leave until 7:30 pm," she stated. The young runner does not have a particular diet, to maintain a healthy form. "I eat a regular diet," she said.

Taylor has already seen the results of her hard work. She's been offered scholarships and has received respect for her accomplishments by the community. "The fact that people look up to me is a great feeling," she admitted. Taylor's mother and coach keep her passionate about running through hardships and trials. Since Taylor's coach put her name forward to the board, the athlete will be flying overseas during the Easter break, to participate in the Carifta Games, in the Cayman Islands. She will be competing in the Under 20 girls 1500m. The events will last for about six days to a week. College scouts will be in attendance searching for new talent as well.

Taylor encouraged those who have a love for running and would like to take up the sport: "Think about it, for the future too. And always keep your head up."
