Premier’s Chief of Staff and press secretary appointees formally announced
Dale Jackson and Charmaine Burgess were formally announced as Premier Craig Cannonier’ latest members of his staff.Mr Jackson is the Premier’s Chief of Staff, while Ms Burgess is his press secretary.Both positions are with “immediate effect” according to a press release announcing the appointments but Mr Jackson has been in the Chief of Staff role for several weeks now.The statement did not make clear when Ms Burgess’s contract began.Nor did it state the terms of the appointment.“Dale Jackson has a background in criminal psychology, mediation and conflict resolution. He brings with him a wealth of experience having worked at the Cabinet office with previous administrations,” the Cabinet statement reads.“Premier Cannonier has directed Mr Jackson to take a leadership and logistical role in shaping the Government’s future. Dale Jackson is a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and is a proud activist against gun violence.”Mr Jackson has served as executive aide to former Premier Ewart Brown and is a former police officer.Ms Burgess “will serve as Press Secretary to the Premier and provide strategic communication initiatives for the Premier and his administration,” the statement continues. “She is no stranger to the field of communications and has an extensive background in print and broadcast media.“She has worked as a journalist and television and radio anchor, both in Bermuda and Canada.”The former marketing executive with Cable & Wireless has a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Toronto and a Master's Degree in Global Marketing from the University of Liverpool.“I am pleased to welcome both Dale Jackson and Charmaine Burgess to these challenging but vital positions,” the Premier is quoted as saying.“Clearly defined logistics and the delivery of strategic and consistent messaging to our numerous stakeholder groups regarding the work of this administration are essential to the Government’s success.”No response was received by press time last night to this newspaper’s queries about the terms and conditions of their contracts.
