Students are invited to spread tourism message
Bermuda’s college students are being invited to act as youth ambassadors in an effort to sell the Island as a holiday destination to their peers. The Bermuda Youth Tourism Board is holding an information session about the initiative at Docksiders tonight. The aim is to show young people how they can “be a conduit for innovative ideas to revitalise Bermuda’s tourism product”, YTB chairman Daniel Reece explained.“The YTB, as well as the Bermuda Board, recognise that in order for the National Tourism Plan to be successfully implemented, support must be sourced from all stakeholders involved, especially the community at large,” he said.“The members and I are excited and ready to work. This Spring Break Launch Student Reception is just one of many projects we hope to develop.”YTB was formed so that young people could add their insight to the tourism industry.Members consist of young professionals “committed to redefining the visitor experience”.Said Tourism Board chairman Maxwell Burgess: “The Youth Board was formed to obtain the perspective of our young people.“They know the audience better than any of us and more importantly, they know how to communicate with them and I am very pleased that the Youth Board has taken the initiative to host this event. I am confident that it will be a success.”Mr Reece stressed the need to “rebuild relationships with Bermuda’s visitors”.“We have to re-establish our brand and focus on the elements that make for a great vacation. We must find our niche and improve the events offered especially at night.“Our main goal will be to sell the spring break product to college students home for Christmas to take back the message to fellow students abroad for the 2013 season. We’re also hoping to attract entrepreneurial spirits to breathe new life into Bermuda’s nightlife, cultural activities and other events.”The event starts at 6.30pm with entertainment by DJ Keem. Complimentary refreshments will be served, along with special giveaways.l For more information e-mail: danielereece@hotmail.com Alternatively visit www.gotobermuda.com/springbreak2013.
