Locals may get the chance to invest in Government bonds
Local investors may soon be offered the chance to invest in Bermuda Government bonds, as the Ministry of Finance turns to the local capital market for funds.Premier Cox made the revelation during her address to the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce yesterday morning, when she said that a “local bond is included in the Government’s financing plan”.Yesterday, Assistant Financial Secretary Anthony Manders was unable to go into detail about the proposed issue.“The Ministry of Finance has been considering a local bond issue for the last few years, but up until now the timing has not been appropriate,” Mr Manders said.“As this relates to the Government financing plans for next fiscal year, which starts on April 1, 2011, it will be premature to comment on this matter at the current time.“However we will be happy to respond in more detail as this matter progresses.”
