Dr Brown: Former staff members’ grievances are ‘unfounded’
Disgruntled ex-staff who have cried foul over alleged intimidation by Bermuda HealthCare Services don’t have any grounds for complaint, according to clinic head former Premier Ewart Brown.
Dr Brown also dismissed the suggestion by the employees that Government’s Department of Workforce Development had failed to take their grievances seriously over a matter of months.
Several workers at the private clinic claimed they’d been pressured after seeking to join a union in July of last year.
Two were fired that September, while another lost their job in October after registering a complaint with Government earlier in the year.
A fourth employee said they were informed last month that their contract wouldn’t be renewed.
The two women who lodged their grievance with Government in July said they had yet to hear anything from investigators — and spoke out this week on the apparent lack of action.
A spokeswoman for the Department confirmed that the complaint was “currently being investigated”, and in a statement released yesterday Dr Brown said the clinic had complied with authorities.
“We have cooperated with all government agencies who have contacted us,” Dr Brown added.
“We think that the recent complaints about government departments are as unfounded as the complaints against Bermuda HealthCare Services.”
