July 1, 2011Dear Sir,Independence – under a PLP Government? You must be joking! The PLP since November 1998, has nearly sunk this precious island, by viciously divisive behaviour, and mismanagement on such a massive scale that it borders on corruption. Debate - what's that? Just be as rude and crude as you can – don't worry about facts! The schools' debating teams must be shocked to the core at the displays by their elders (and ‘worsers'!) in both the House and Senate, where ‘ranting and raving' is normally accepted behaviour and neither Speaker nor President seem to have much control. Bermudians deserve better than this.We still deserve answers on all those misspent millions from day one. The island I fell in love with back in 1961 has been destroyed on every level – environmentally, socially, educationally and financially. Ironically, the one who actually could have made good things happen, Dr Ewart Brown, instead took his stated revenge – “to make Bermuda pay”. How he must be gloating at his success! And, no, Premier Cox, my faith in your abilities has totaly evaporated since you were first appointed Minister of Finance (a good person, I thought, at the time), then led us on this disastrous downhill slide. Goodness me, it must have been an agonising decision, for all of you, to accept that nearly doubling of your salaries four years ago! And I really don't think that you (or any of you) care one jot about the pain in this community – pain that “you lot up on the Hill” have carelessly created year after year.Definitely time for change!PENNY HILLHamilton Parish
