Restrictions on use of beaches for horses and dogs
Summer restrictions have come into effect for dogs and horses at parks and public beaches.The Parks Department said the rules have changed for horses on beaches.From May 1 until October 31, horses are not allowed on any beach in South Shore Park. This includes Horseshoe Bay, Peel Bay, Butt’s Beach, Wafer Rocks Beach, Chaplin Bay, Stonehole Bay, Jobson’s Cove and Warwick Long Bay. John Smith’s Bay, Elbow Beach and Shelly Bay are also off limits.During that time, horse owners can take horses on all other public beaches but can only go below the high water mark between 5am and 8am.Horses are allowed on trails and dunes in South Shore Park at any time.Regulations have also changed for dogs.From April 1, dogs are not permitted on any of the public beaches until October 31.They can be walked on the trails in parks, or on the dunes in South Shore Park, provided they are leashed at all times.They are not allowed in the Main Show Ring at the Botanical Gardens. They are also not allowed on the playgrounds at Clearwater Beach, Mullet Bay Park, Shelly Bay Park, Parsons Road, Admiralty House Park, Warwick Long Bay and Death Valley Park.Dogs are also not allowed in the new Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve.
