De ste Croix leads locals at Tri Worlds

they turned in some encouraging performances at at the World Triathlon Championships despite having to combat hot and humid conditions.

The Island's top triathlete, Neil de ste Croix, was the first Bermuda competitor to finish with a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 19 seconds and placed 53rd out of a field of 107 in the men's 30-34 age group.

Eloy Castroverde followed in 2:20.55 for 49th place out of 104 starters in the 35-39 age division, while Steve Donnelly clocked 2:22.12 for 71st place in the same category.

Among the women, Shona Palmer led home the Bermuda contingent, placing 19th out of 83 in the 25-29 age division in 2:23.44, which was the fourth fastest time of all Bermuda entrants.

Dawn Robinson followed in 2:50.16 for 45th out of 56 in the 35-39 age group.

Bermuda's two junior B competitors, Kris Hedges and Jonathan Herring, also fared well. Hedges finished in 1:12.07 for 60th overall and Herring was 97th in 1:21.48 over a shorter course than the seniors. The junior field numbered 106.
