Lest we forget

Dear Sir,

Today (January 27, 2021) is Holocaust Memorial Day. We must never forget the millions of people, primarily Jews, who were incarcerated in death camps by Adolf Hitler’s regime.

I remember the vivid images shown in the newspapers and newsreels in cinemas of the survivors in striped clothes, like pyjamas, standing behind wire fences.

On being saved by Allied troops, quite a number died from malnutrition or disease. I wonder what they were thinking; that salvation was there and yet still they would not survive.

Those who did lost their siblings, parents and grandparents, and they have had to live with their memories for the past 77 years.

We worry about Covid-19, but let us not forget the suffering these people experienced and the memories they have had to carry for so long.
