Leadership and green credentials at CedarBridge
The shoots of leadership have taken root at CedarBridge Academy.
National Student Leadership Week had an environmental theme last week as students took part in 'Step Up! Go Green!'
The CedarBridge Academy National Honor Society (CBA NHS) hosted several fun events, offering games, workshops, a recycling programme and an awards assembly.
There was also a talk from a member of sustainability group Greenrock and exercises in team-building and leadership.
On Wednesday, up to 264 students wore green grub clothes to school to mark Grub Day. Youngsters and adults each brought in three empty water bottles or soda cans, which were then taken to the Recycling Plant and Tynes Bay.
On Monday there was fun and games on a green theme, with hoola-hoop, a trash pick-up and apple bobbing.
Then on Tuesday, 19 students were recognised for their leadership skills at a special assembly.
Those receiving awards included: Shallette Spencer, Monique Gobern, Courtney Simons, Ta-Shanae Trott, Andrew Almeida, Lavonna Thomas, Brandi Bassett, Danielle Richards, Shane Hodgson, Lyndell Davis, Angele Smith, Princine Bailey, Sarafina Durrant, Khaivon Brown, Princeton Bailey, Aly Zweiner, Andrew Almeida, Kavonne O'Marra and Jahnae Harvey.
The conference wrapped up on Thursday with a Leadership Conference for CBA NHS members.
