Bank raises cash for Meals on Wheels
Clarien Bank raised $11,500 for Meals on Wheels through its holiday giveback campaign, it was announced today.
Clarien ran its annual effort to ask clients, employees and the public to make donations from November 26 to December 31 last year.
Michael DeCouto, Clarien’s executive vice-president and chief digital and marketing officer, said: “At a time when many in the Bermuda community were feeling the negative impacts of the crisis, Clarien was committed to doing our small part to make a difference to those in need this past holiday season.
“We wish to thank our entire community, including clients and staff, for kindly showing their support for this worthy Bermuda charity.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Meals on Wheels and trust with the community’s help they can continue their important work for Bermuda.”
Meals on Wheels prepares meals for people who are unable to cook for themselves, such as the sick, elderly and disabled.
The charity said it had experienced increased demand because of Covid 19.
The charity added that volunteer turnover is higher than usual and many clients who could afford to contribute to costs were no longer able to do so.
Peter Smith, the president of Meals on Wheels, said the donation would help the charity maintain services.
He appealed to the public to continue to support the charity by donations and as volunteers.
