The Job with Adrian Mendoza
Age: 30Role: Qualified Accountant/Interim Professional, Expertise Ltd.What is your job? I provide financial accounting and consulting services to Expertise clients on a secondment basis. As a qualified accountant, my role includes ensuring the completeness of my clients' records and their compliance to certain reporting requirements. I have also provided assistance for other business related projects, which include documentation and providing recommendations to improve certain key processes within my clients' business. What is your favourite part of the job? Working on a temporary basis, I enjoy the luxury of experiencing diversity of roles and workload making me more flexible and versatile in my chosen field. Acquiring skills through continuing professional education through experience is important to me. In addition, I have gained access to people from different fields whom became good mentors and friends as well. What is your least favourite part of the job? There are times when I am comfortably integrated with a client, and then it's already time to move to another client. What is your most interesting experience at work? Being temporary, I have limited security access in most of my clients. There was a time I worked extra hours at a client's office. They weren't aware that I was still in the premises, so they set the alarm system before leaving. Little did I know that they all left for the day, so when I opened one of the doors, the alarms went off! I was in a panic and didn't know what to do. The next day the client very politely gave me instructions how to use the alarms. I think it was quite hard for them to hold their laughter! What would you be doing otherwise? If I wasn't here in Bermuda, I think I would return to my home in the Philippines and manage my own business. I've always been a self-confessed coffee addict, so I think that would be what I am doing … managing my own café.
