A new search was carried out on Monday as part of a police probe into the disappearance of a young mother after officers were given “specific information”.

A police spokesman said the information on Chavelle Dillon-Burgess “was acted on, resulting in an area being searched”.

He added: “The Bermuda Police Service wishes to thank the public for the continued support as we work to bring closure to the family and friends of Chavelle.”

Ms Dillon-Burgess, the mother of a two-year-old son, was last known to be in contact with friends and family on April 11 last year.

She was reported missing by her mother on April 30, about two weeks before her 27th birthday.

Ms Dillon-Burgess was last seen at her home on Hillview Road, Warwick.

She worked at the Fairmont Southampton and was a new recruit to the Royal Bermuda Regiment.

Friends, family and members of the public scoured the island in the weeks after Ms Dillon-Burgess’ disappearance.

Searches by police included the use of Falco, a specialist cadaver dog brought to Bermuda in June.

Detective Sergeant Jason Smith, of the Serious Crime Division, said last summer that a mini-submarine with a camera as well as kayaks and poles were used to check Warwick Pond in a "meticulous and extended exercise“.

Police revealed last year that inquiries into Ms Dillon-Burgess’s disappearance had developed into a murder investigation.

A BPS spokesman said yesterday: “A suspect remains out on bail.“
