Law firm’s efforts aid typhoon victims
Fundraising efforts by a law firm to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines have secured more than $74,000 for the disaster-hit Southeast Asia island nation.
Conyers Dill and Pearman raised more than $37,000, and this amount was matched dollar-for-dollar by the UK’s Disasters Emergency Fund, bringing the relief aid total to just above $74,000.
Contributions from staff, lawyers and the firm’s Staff Benevolent Scheme and Charitable Trust totalled $37,091, which was presented to Kathleen Moniz, an Associate at Conyers and member of the board of directors of the Bermuda Red Cross.
“Our thoughts go out to those impacted in the Philippines and to the Filipinos in Bermuda whose families back home have been affected,” said director Julie McLean, who spearheaded the fundraiser.
“By contributing to the Bermuda Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Appeal we can aid in the effort to provide food, clothing, shelter, first aid and emotional support to those in need.”
