Bermuda dog proves to be international winner!
A story in our Thursday edition mistakenly reported the site of the American Dog Championships in Montgomery, Alabama. The championships took place in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Having already conquered Bermuda and the US, a local dog became a three-time winner when he took the Canadian Championship last month.
Julian, a miniature schnauzer who is owned by Mrs. Zenna Lowthorpe of Warwick, has been winning championships since he entered his first puppy show at eight months. When he was 17 months, he won the American Championship in Montgomery, Alabama, beating out other dogs at the largest terrier show in the United States. Last month, Julian travelled to Thorold, Ontario, where he captured the Canadian Championship by coming in first in a three-show contest. "Julian wins so many shows because he has perfect conformation,'' Mrs. Lowthorpe said, referring to his measurements and breed.
During his 40-month career, Julian, now four, has won three specialty "best in shows'' abroad and two "best in shows'' in Bermuda. He has also won the silver jug for being top dog in his group for two consecutive years at the All Breeds Club's annual meeting.
When asked who she named the dog after, Mrs. Lowthorpe said: "I named him for Julian Hall, because Mr. Hall wins so much in the courts and I knew that my dog would win in the dog shows.''
