Warning over resold Honda Scoopys
Police are asking the public to be careful when purchasing Honda Scoopys from local resale websites after several of the vehicles have been stolen.According to a Police spokesman, of the 45 bikes stolen on the Island since May, 30 have been 125cc Honda Scoopys.“These bikes are being stolen from locations across the Island, but areas in Pembroke are being heavily targeted,” the spokesman said. “These areas include Front Street, Happy Valley and areas surrounding the BIU building.”The spokesman said that police are aware that local resale websites are being used to sell the stolen vehicles, asking the public to be wary when purchasing second hand bikes that appear to be new. The retail price for a 125cc Scoopy is approximately $7,000, but some are being sold online for half that amount. While the low price may be tempting, police warned that anyone found riding a stolen vehicle can be arrested. In order to keep your bike secure, police are advising the public to use second locks to secure the vehicles, as handlebar locks can often be easily broken, and parking your bike in well-lit areas.Anyone looking to purchase a second hand vehicle online is asked to contact the Vehicle Crime Unit on 295-0011 if they have any concerns or hesitations.
