Hoteliers are being advised to step up their security after a terrifying attack on a tourist by three intruders.The Bermuda Hotel Association has warned its members to be on their guard after an occupied hotel room was broken into.An altercation then took place between the three burglars and the tourist in the hotel room on South Shore Road, Paget.It is not known if anyone was hurt or if anything was stolen in the break-in, which happened at an undisclosed hotel early last week.However John Harvey was so concerned about the intruders striking again that he sent out an e-mail titled ‘crime alert’ to all hoteliers, marking it as high importance.The e-mail read: “One of our member properties was attacked last evening by three men who entered a guest room which was occupied.“There was an altercation between the culprits and the guest. The property is located on the South Shore in Paget and I ask you to share this with your security and other members of staff so that they maybe vigilant in protecting the hotel and your guest.”The incident did not feature on the police daily report, and a request for information from the police did not yield any.Mr Harvey told The Royal Gazette he would not reveal the name of the property where the break-in took place.He said: “I sent out the e-mail because I wanted to warn our members.“Thankfully it’s been very, very quiet and calm this year in terms of criminal activity and we are very pleased about that. “But as soon as I heard about this, I wanted to get the word out there. I just wanted to tell people to be on their guard.”The warning comes after a visiting couple were attacked by a knifeman in their hotel room at Grotto Bay in October last year.The man was repeatedly stabbed and the woman was knocked unconscious when they woke up to the intruder standing at the end of their bed.
