City location is divided up ahead of hotel development

An application to split Par-la-Ville car park and Queen Elizabeth Park in advance of a potential hotel project, has been given approval. The subdivision application, submitted by the City of Hamilton, proposed to separate the areas into separate lots while creating a 30ft right of way on the current road access to the parking lot.The northern lot, estimated to cover 1.83 acres, contains the parking lot and right of way leading to the parking area. The 2.44 acre southern lot contains the park, the National Library, Perot Post Office and public restrooms.A City of Hamilton spokeswoman said: “Currently the Queen Elizabeth Park and Par-la-Ville car park are seen as one piece of land.“As you are aware, there is a development planned for a hotel and, in order to develop the car park portion, the City of Hamilton applied to the Development Applications Board to subdivide the property.”The application was approved on May 10. It noted however that the subdivision is not consistent with the in-principle planning approval and SDO associated with the Par-la-Ville Hotel project, so adjustments to both would be required if the subdivision plan is put into effect.
