Education Minister Milton Scott this week officially opened the new purpose-built therapy room for students at Southampton Glebe Primary School.

The room, which had its ground-breaking last summer, has been completed and is now open for the enjoyment of students with special needs.

In addition to Sen. Scott, Southampton Glebe principal Eunice Jones and other guests were on hand for the ceremony on Wednesday.

Mrs. Jones noted that when she arrived at the school in 1996 the concept for the room was "still a dream''.

"Plans had been set into motion,'' she said, adding that she was a little skeptical about its completion.

"I'll believe it when I see it,'' she said she thought.

But through the diligence of architect Terry Bowers, contractor Ricky Sousa, and the Education Department's Joeann Smith, Darlene Warner, and Bob Winters the dream became a reality.

The room is supplied with equipment which can be used by the students in their therapy. There is also a second room at the back which can be used for speech therapy.

Mrs. Jones explained that the rooms' use would benefit "primarily six students''.

"I'm hopeful that it will be used by other students,'' she added.

Sen. Scott said he was "glad to see that the students are enjoying the facility''.

He said his Ministry was in the process of "looking at how to meet these challenges''.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Jones said the room would make the school "better able to meet the needs of the students''.

"This will be done by better utilising the programmes at school,'' she said.

"They (the students) are all success stories.''
