An awareness campaign will be launched this month to highlight dementia care.

The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors is working with health professionals to boost knowledge of the subject.

Tinee Furbert, the social development and seniors minister, said: "On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I want to thank the individuals and organisations that are assisting us in creating a supportive and engaging community that is dementia caring.

"We will be hosting Zoom live panel discussions, a radio series and interactive social media campaigns to engage with the public and explore critical factors to keep in mind when caring for individuals experiencing cognitive change due to dementia and dementia-related conditions.

"The intention is to empower family caregivers, care professionals, and members of the general public to collectively enhance the quality of life for those in our community who need support living with cognitive change."

Mr Furbert added: "There may be many factors that are out of our control.

“However, we look forward to using the valuable resources that are in our control to support the wellbeing of our community."

The Zoom talks will be held on February 11 and March 11 from 6pm to 7pm.

Thursday’s discussion will cover “what is dementia?” as well as “caregiving and controlling frustrations”.

The talk next month is expected to include information about online training resources, hiring home help, community care and power of attorney.

Both talks will be broadcast on the Government’s YouTube channel, Facebook page and CITV.

Episodes in the radio series will be broadcast on radio station Magic 102.7 at 3pm on the last Thursday of each month from February to July.
