St George’s picked up a big scalp in the One 50 Overs league yesterday when they took advantage of a weakened St David’s team the day after the Eastern Counties Cup.

St David’s were missing captain Justin Pitcher, OJ Pitcher and Delyone Borden as St George’s capitalised to score their biggest win of the season. They posted 244 for eight and then dismissed St David’s for just 90 in 18 overs.

Okera Bascome and Temiko Wilson put on 58 for the first wicket in just 9.5 overs with Bascome scoring 44 and Wilson 20. Detroy Smith, the No 3 bat, added 28 but after he was third out on 120, St David’s fought their way back into the game, taking three middle order wickets for just four runs.

The tail end then made sure they reached 200, frustrating St David’s with three late partnerships. Oyinde Bascome (22) and Justin Denbrook (14) put on 34 for the seventh wicket; Bascome and Isaiah Greaves (44 not out) added 37 for the eighth wicket before Greaves and Kyajee Wilson (21) added a further 49 for the unbroken ninth wicket.

Greaves and Okera Bascome both scored their 44 runs off 51 balls, Bascome hitting five fours and a six and Greaves two fours and a six. Allan Douglas claimed three for 44 from ten overs to lead the St David’s bowling while Rudell Pitcher claimed two for 24 and Makai Simmons took two for 46.

Denbrook fell for just four runs on his return to Wellington Oval to face his former team, as the top six St David’s batsmen all failed to reach double figures, including captain Lionel Cann who was first out for six in the third over, with just 13 runs on the board.

By the tenth over, St David’s were in deep trouble, 40 for six with the dangerous Douglas out for just three, caught by Oronde Bascome off the bowling of younger brother Oyinde.

Iyuan Smith, batting at No 7, was high man for the visiting side with 18 not out, from two fours and a six, while tailender Rudell Pitcher was the only other batsman in double figures with 13.

Detroy Smith, who took the new ball, did the bowling damage for St George’s with five for 33 from 6.3 overs, while Oyinde Bascome claimed two for 15 off six overs.
