Man fined $800 for 1.65 grams of cannabis
A Pembroke man was fined after being caught with a small quantity of cannabis.Dwight McGowan, 41, pleaded guilty to a single count of possessing cannabis outside the Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club.Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court officers went to the club to perform a liquor licence check around 7.30pm on March 28.They noticed a group of men, including McGowan, standing in the rear parking lot.As they approached, McGowan dropped two small red ziplock bags and ran into the club.He was arrested after a brief chase, and told police: “I was in the bar drinking with my girl.”The bags were later found to contain 1.65g of cannabis.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner noted that McGowan had a previous conviction of possessing cannabis and fined him $800.
