Jacobi honours co-worker after Sandys tragic killing
Somerset skipper Jacobi Robinson has dedicated next week's Cup Match to the memory of late co-worker ShaKeya DeRoza.
The 24-year-old all-rounder will play in honour of the mother-of-two who died from multiple injuries inflicted during a "violent confrontation" that took place at her Paynter Lane, Sandys apartment on July 10.
DeRoza's estranged boyfriend, Jermaine Wellington Pearman, has since been charged with the 23-year old correction officer's death and is also facing an additional charge of possession of a seven inch blade on the Railway Trail in Sandys, not far from the scene where the victim collapsed in a pool of blood and succumbed to her wounds.
Pearman is the father of DeRoza's two young children who have been left to mourn the tragic loss of their ambitious mom who harboured dreams of becoming a psychologist and owning her own clothing store.
Said Robinson of his former work colleague's passing: "Everybody is heartbroken by her tragic death and once you lose a colleague like that it hurts, especially the way she died.
"Nobody deserves to go out like that and at the end of the day we have lost a great individual and that's why I am dedicating this year's Cup Match in honour of her memory.
"I worked with her down at the Co -Ed facility and it is very sad and unfortunate what has happened. But I just want to let her family, co-workers and the public know that I have dedicated this year's Cup Match to her.
"She was such a wonderful person and my prayers continue to go out to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace."
