Somerset 3 Devonshire Colts 1
Devonshire Colts' season.
He ended a furious Colts onslaught with an inch-perfect pass from the halfway line in the 87th minute.
The ball landed at the feet of striker Reginald Tucker who slotted it past an advancing Andre Hendrickson from 15 yards.
It killed Colts' hopes of snatching an equaliser after going two goals behind in the first 20 minutes.
Their impressive second-half fightback had Somerset rocking on their heels.
But chance after chance went begging as Colts laid seige to the Trojans' goalmouth.
Striker Ellington Weldon -- who had launched the comeback with a typical 44th-minute goal -- was particularly wasteful.
Mistakes can prove costly, and Bascome and Tucker rammed the message home in deadly fashion.
Both teams had come off morale-boosting victories, and were determined to end the season on a high.
The game started in high drama when Bascome grabbed a goal in the first minute.
He latched on to the ball and scored after Hendrickson could only parry a powerful drive by Clifton Anderson.
Kwame Tucker nearly snatched another moments later, but failed to connect with a low cross from Anderson.
In the 19th minute, the left-footed Anderson drove Somerset fans into a frenzy with a 20-yard thunderbolt.
Hendrickson was beaten by raw power as the ball shot into the left-hand corner of the net.
The goal had many fans hollering for an "action replay''.
It was no more than Somerset deserved as they had taken the game by the scruff of the neck from the outset.
Colts, however, gradually pushed forward, with midfield workhorse Leonard Hypolite setting the example with tireless running.
The nimble-footed Quincey Aberdeen became a constant menace with spirited dashes down the right flank, and smart, whipped-in crosses.
And just a minute before half-time, Colts made their pressure count.
It was a goal, though, which left huge question marks about Somerset's marking.
From just outside the box, Mark Ray threaded the ball through to an unmarked Weldon.
Weldon had time to line up the shot in the penalty area and slip the ball into the left-hand corner of the net past a helpless Antoine Swan.
After the restart Colts maintained the momentum, carving out a string of opportunities.
In the 57th minute, Weldon seemed certain to score after Ray had headed the ball to him in front of goal.
Weldon, however, got underneath the ball, sending it ballooning over Swan's crossbar from just five yards.
Two minutes later Weldon came close again, firing the ball over the bar following a free kick just outside the 18-yard area.
