Sandys Secondary School will celebrate its 70th Anniversary with a service tomorrow at Allen Temple AME Church in Somerset.

School principal Melvyn Bassett said the 4 p.m. service will feature the Rev.

Eugene Hayward from Hampton, Virginia.

Rev. Hayward, the son of the recently retired Richard Allen Church pastor Rev.

Samuel Hayward, is a former Sandys Secondary School pupil.

And he began his ministering career at Vernon Temple AME Church in 1970.

The anniversary service will also contain contributions from other Sandys graduates including Rev. Howard Dill of St. John's AME Church, Pastor Ken Manders of Somerset Seventh Day Adventist Church and Rev. Leonard Santucci of Heard Chapel AME Church.

Mr. Bassett added that the music for the service will also be provided by former and present students of the school.

And a reception will follow the ceremony in the Church Hall.

Mr. Bassett said other activities were also planned to commemorate the milestone.

An Ex-Scholar's Golf Tournament will be held today at the St. George's Golf Course.

And an Open House/Homecoming celebration will be held at the school on May 23 and will feature entertainment provided by former, current and future middle school students.
