Seaman treated for facial injuries

A doctor was transported out to a container ship off St George's last night to treat a crew member with facial injuries.A spokesman for Bermuda Maritime Operations centre said the man was injured when a grinder tool got damaged and a piece of the machinery flew off and lacerated his face.The centre was notified of the incident on board the 10,000-tonne ship Kasif Kalkavan at 4.30pm Saturday. The vessel later dropped anchor off St George.“She arrived around 9pm and a pilot launch with medical staff went to assist. They put stitches in his face on the ship and he did not have to come ashore,” explained a spokesman.The vessel is registered in the Marshall Islands and the injured sailor and the rest of the crew are all Turkish. The vessel is on its way from Savannah, Georgia, to Mersin, Turkey, and has now continued with its journey.
