Second Division

Somerset Trojans won't have things their own way in their bid to make a quick return to the First Division.

A team who only returned to the league this season also have their sights set on one of the two promotion spots and yesterday Hotels threw things wide open with a well earned win at Somerset to remain the only unbeaten team in the division.

First half goals settled the issue in the rain as Craig Critchlow opened the scoring in the sixth minute and Dennis Robinson made it 2-0 in the 23rd. The loss was the first for the Trojans but they remain in first place, though only on goal difference over Hotels (who have a game in hand) and Social Club.

Social Club 4 BAA 1 Social Club moved into the thick of the race for promotion, destroying BAA with a second half burst.

Trailing 1-0 to a well taken free kick by Meshach Wade in the 22nd minute and appearing a dazed bunch, Social Club came alive following the break, scoring four times unanswered.

Not bearing witness to the success, however, was coach Fred Lewis, who after earlier launching into a profanity-filled half-time tirade aimed at his troops, stormed from the bench in disgust five minutes into the second half.

But while Lewis simmered inside the clubhouse, his players coolly took apart their opponents on the pitch, equalising through Dennis Zuill in the 63rd minute and having substitute Winston Thomas hit what proved to be the winner five minutes later.

Coolridge Bell and Shawn Laws added insurance with goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes.

Social Club moved to third place, level on 10 points with Hotels and leaders Somerset.

Prospect 1 Paget 2 While it took them 11 league games last season to record their first and only win, Paget have already equalled that mark in only their fourth match.

Their 1-0 triumph over home team Prospect was their first in 11 games dating back to the 1995-96 season, their last victory before yesterday having occurred on January 28.

And although still some way from announcing themselves as legitimate title challengers, the Ord Road club have lately displayed the gritty determination and improved skill level that may see them spoil the hopes of would be contenders.

After falling behind to a Michael Thomas strike in the 24th minute, Paget simply continued with their game plan and did not self-destruct, which had been their custom.

That calmness paid off in the second half as Terrance Christopher popped up, striking twice in the space of 11 minutes, scoring in the 62nd and 73rd minutes to earn his side three points.

The win also allowed Paget to jump two spots, moving from eighth to sixth in the Second Division.

Meanwhile, the result was another blow for Prospect, who lost for the fourth consecutive time, have yet to earn a point this season and anchor the standings.
