American warships came for annual family `Tiger Cruise'
Two American warships were at the US Naval Air Station on the weekend for a Tiger Cruise.
Relatives were allowed to board the ships and sail back to the United States.
The ships were the USS Kauffman , an Oliver Hazard Perry Class guided missile frigate, and the USS Hue City , a Ticonderoga Class guided missile cruiser.
Meanwhile, the Royal Navy was expecting the arrival of three British warships at HMS Malabar.
HMS Active , a Type 21 destroyer, and HMS Cumberland , a Type 22 destroyer, were expected on September 17, along with the tanker RFA Oakleaf .
Cumberland is presently the West Indies Guard Ship, but during the stop in Bermuda that responsibility will be handed over to Active , Commander Robin Bawtree said.
Active and Oakleaf are to sail on September 20, while Cumberland sails for the United Kingdom on September 21.
Thousands more cruise ship passengers arrived on the Island.
Horizon , Dreamward , and Meridian arrived with 1,392, 1,220, and 1,014 passengers respectively, Meyer Agencies reported.
Horizon arrived at Hamilton from New York on Monday, shifted to St. George's yesterday, and sails today.
Dreamward arrived at St. George's on Monday, shifted to Hamilton on Tuesday, and sails today.
Meridian arrived at Dockyard on Tuesday and sails for New York tomorrow.
Song of America arrived at St. George's on Tuesday with 1,394 passengers, agent John S. Darrell & Co. Ltd. reported. She shifted to Hamilton yesterday and sails tomorrow.
The Oleander , the largest container ship serving Bermuda, arrived at Hamilton on Monday from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, and sailed on Tuesday.
She discharged 163 containers, including 45 refrigerated ones, 11 crates of steel, steel angles, and pipe, and one truck, Container Ship Management Ltd.

Bermuda Islander arrived at Hamilton on Monday from Salem, New Jersey and sailed on Tuesday.
She discharged 77 containers, including six refrigerated ones and four horses in boxes.
The Longtail Express , the ship serving the US Naval Air Station, arrived at Hamilton on Monday and discharged seven containers, including four refrigerated ones, John S. Darrell reported.
She then shifted to the US base before sailing on Tuesday for Norfolk, Virginia.
The second officer was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital from a passing bulk carrier on Saturday to have his appendix removed, John S. Darrell said.
The Galini , a 590-foot Panamanian-registered vessel with a mainly Greek crew, was on her way to Yemen from New Orleans with a load of corn meal and soya beans when the officer fell ill.
She dropped anchor at Five Fathom Hole and the officer was taken aboard a pilot boat.
Harbour Radio helped a German yacht find her way into Bermuda overnight on Tuesday after navigational instruments failed.
The Vriseis , a 48-foot white ketch, had set sail from Florida.
