Smith wins Classic
and win the inaugural Island Construction Senior Classic at St. George's Golf Club yesterday.
Smith had started the third round with a one-shot lead after overhauling opening-day leader Rabain with a 64 on Saturday and finished with a four-stroke winning margin after Rabain carded 70 yesterday.
Smith, who is based at the Southampton Princess, won the first prize of $1,500, while Rabain pocketed $750.
Eardley Jones fired yesterday's best round of 64 to finish third, his 54-hole total of 202 leaving him just two shots adrift of Rabain.
Fourth in the pro division was JJ Madeiros, who totalled 206, four shots ahead of Joe Cheeseman. Jones won $650, Madeiros $575 and Cheeseman $525.
Douglas (Blip) Morris completed three consistent rounds to win the championship flight as the top amateur. He shot 67, 69 and 68 for a total of 204, which gave him fourth place overall.
The only serious challenge to Morris came from Max Atherden, runner-up five shots back. A 65 on Saturday had left Atherden just one stroke behind Morris, but he could only manage a 72 yesterday.
Adrian Crockwell (213) was third, Richard Knight (214) was fourth, while Nolan Crane (215) finished fifth.
John Williams won the first flight with a three-round total of 233, two shots better than second-placed Daniel Stovell.
