St. George's gears up for party

The Corporation of St. George?s will be hosting its 14th annual jam-packed New Year?s Eve extravaganza with dancing, food and fireworks tonight.

The party starts at 8 p.m. in King?s Square and culminates with the traditional lowering of the onion, countdown to 2005 by St. George?s Mayor E. Michael Jones and fireworks.

Entertainment will be provided by Spanish Town Entertainment?s Jonathan Trott.

Parking will be available at Belco and Penno?s Wharf car parks.

If you live in the central parishes and prefer something a little closer to home on a more grand scale, you can always go dancing at Elbow Beach from 8 p.m. followed by a New Years? Eve festive party in the Veranda Bar and Lounge from 10.30 p.m until 1 a.m.

An entrance fee of $45 will be charged and Elbow Beach can be contacted for more detail.

Many hotels on the Island are offering similar events for both guests and locals which include a special bed and breakfast rate.

If you?re feeling a little more daring, or you?d just like to see who is, you can always go down to Whaler Inn this morning and watch the Polar Bear Plunge.

Those brave enough, will take to the water at about 8 a.m. tomorrow.

In Hamilton meanwhile, Docksiders will be closed for the entire evening while Robin Hood shuts its doors at 10.30 p.m.

Flanagans will be open all night, as will Blue Juice, Pickled Onion and Ozone ? the latter three all requiring tickets for entry. There is also a party at the Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society on Dundonald Street.
