Restaurant up for sale
The restaurant, serving up home-cooked Bermudian food, has been owned and managed by Mr. John Souza for the last 10 years.
Now, poor health has forced Mr. Souza to put the restaurant on the market and focus on his second business, distributing Slush Puppy products Island wide.
Mrs. Lori Souza said the decision to sell the business was made solely because of her husband's poor health. "Once the restaurant is sold, he can concentrate on Slush Puppy, which has not done as well as it could because of the restaurant,'' she said.
Sources in the local restaurant industry suggested that $200,000 was a reasonable purchase price for Traditions.
"The restaurant is ideal for a young couple, who could make a go of it,'' said Mrs. Souza.
The owners have taken pride in producing good-sized portions at value for money prices.
Situated on Middle Road on the border of Southampton and Sandys, Traditions is sufficiently distanced from other restaurants to capture the local market in that area, said Mr. Souza's daughter, Ms Heather Souza.
"There is a real opportunity here for the new owners to open on Sundays as Henry VIII's restaurant is the only one nearby that opens that day. Henry VIII is expensive compared to our reasonable prices,'' said Ms Souza.
Traditions currently employs six full-time staff and seats 45. It has no liquor licence.
The restaurant has been open at the present site for more than two years. The premises, rented from Government, were renovated before the Souza's reopened in March, 1991.
