Warwick Academy has set up a new committee to promote diversity and inclusion across the school.

The Committee for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion was designed to strengthen respect for the variety cultures and ethnic backgrounds at the private school.

The group will launch a survey for parents, staff and pupils next week to help identify key areas the school can work on to promote its aims.

The committee is made up of eight members, school governors and staff, who will also work with the school’s pupil-led Human Rights Group.

Dave Horan, the school’s principal, said: “The creation of this committee is aligned with several decisions, in particular during the last two years, which have been driven by the school’s desire to continuously improve in making diversity, equity and inclusion visible and progress in these significant areas sustainable.”

The creation of the committee, led by the Board of Governors, followed the introduction of the Human Rights Friendly School Programme in 2013.

Françoise Wolffe, a teacher and the school’s human rights co-ordinator, added: “Students have worked tirelessly and passionately on promoting social justice values within our school.

“This initiative validates their extensive efforts over the years and provides the students with invaluable support.”
