Jones and Augustus picked for World Cup team

Nick Jones

Nick Jones and Daniel Augustus will represent Bermuda at the World Cup Qualifier to be held in Venezuela in September. The Bermuda Professional Golfer's Association selected the two young professionals after Michael Sims said he couldn't go this year.According to the rules of the tournament a country must select a world ranked player if they have one, and if that is there only world ranked player, then that player can select their partner. In the past Sims has represented Bermuda and so picking a team hasn't been an issue, that's not the case this time around."Regrettably, Michael Sims has declined to play due to his commitments on the Nationwide Tour," said team manager Alex Madeiros. "Michael is justifiably upset at having to make this decision not to represent Bermuda however, it is understandable how important this year is for Michael, and the Association wishes him well."As a result, the PGA Selection Committee had the unusual opportunity to choose players for the World Cup Qualifier. The Committee spent hours in deliberating their decision, a decision not taken lightly."They reviewed all possible scenarios and decided the Association must move forward, allowing younger members to have an opportunity."The Committee felt that Jones and Augustus have similar games and would be an excellent fit to see Bermuda through to the final, which is scheduled for November in Mission Hills, China."Bermuda PGA President, Brian Morris said: "Regardless of the outcome, the Association is excited and proud to provide this opportunity and exposure to two of Bermuda's up and coming young professional players."
