Sims back for Nationwide Tour charity event
Michael Sims returns to the Nationwide Tour tomorrow to play in the BMW Charity Pro-Am where he will rub shoulders with the likes of Wayne Gretzky and former Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan. The event is being played over three courses in North and South Carolina - Bright’s Creek Golf Club, The Carolina Country Club, Thornblade Club - with Sims and his fellow professionals all battling it out for the $108,000 winner’s cheque.Sims goes into the event on the back of a first win on the Peach State Professional Golf Tour last week, where he picked up $15,000 for his play-off victory at The Orchard Open. That pay-day was nearly $10,000 more than his Nationwide earnings for the past two years.Meanwhile, in Bermuda, Daniel Augustus took the Jack Daniels Tour’s second major of the year, with a two shot win at Mid Ocean Club on Monday. The Port Royal employee was the only player to break par as his two-under 69 saw him finish ahead of Twilton Smith, who finished with a level-par 71.Augustus’ score was all the more impressive because he was two-over after a front nine that saw him card double-bogeys on seven and eight. It wasn’t until the final stretch that Augustus’ round took off, and birdies at 14 and 17 came either side of an eagle at the par-five 15.Brian Morris shot a steady 73 to take third, while there was a three-way tie between Chaka Desilva, Dwayne Pearman, and Eardley Jones, for fourth.
