Piper, 43, beat former champion Dave Waltham in the two-leg decider, having advanced to the final unbeaten while Waltham lost to Piper prior to the final.

That left Waltham having to beat Piper twice in the final to take the championship. He stayed in contention with a 21-14, 21-18, 21-17 win in the first leg after mixing aggression with sound defensive chops to out-duel Piper's forcefulness.

In the second final Piper caught his opponent at 17-17 as Waltham made three late crucial errors to allow Piper to win the first game 21-18. Waltham then led 9-2 in the second game as Piper was forced to adjust his game. However, Waltham's game deteriorated with a series of mistakes as he went down 18-21.

With increased aggression in a do-or-die situation, Waltham blasted Piper 21-12 in the third game. But Piper then reverted to a game of finesse to wear down a tired Waltham who again committed a series of unforced errors before crashing 21-12 in the fourth.

On his way to the final Piper beat Cal Butterfield 19-21, 21-12, 21-13, defending champion Mike Lindo 21-17, 17-21, 21-12 and Waltham 21-14, 21-19.

Waltham beat Rawle Frederick 21-7, 21-18, Perry Swan 21-12, 21-13 and Mike Lindo 21-14, 21-15 to reach the final in the losers bracket.

The semi-final of the Billy Bee Trucking Challenge Cup will be held tonight, with Old Colony Club I at home to The Centre in a match featuring six players in the top 10, while Prison Officers host BPSA in the other match.

SQUASH Bermuda's Commonwealth Games player Nick Kyme has enjoyed his second success in two weeks, winning the Hartford Junior Boys Under-19 Squash Championships.

Kyme did so in convincing fashion, showing his opponent in the final, Aaron Zimmerman, absolutely no mercy with a 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 demolition. Zimmerman is currently ranked 12th in the USA under-19 division.

Earlier last month Kyme defended his under-19 crown at the Choate Junior Championships, dropping an average of just three points a match while powering through five rounds in two days.

Both tournaments in which Kyme participated are part of the US Squash Racquets Association junior ranking tour.

Kyme's coach noted that the local player continued to look sharp with a relentless barrage of shots which sent his opponents flying from one corner to another.

Kyme is captain and the number one ranked player for The Taft School in Connecticut which is currently ranked first in high school squash in America.

DARTS Travis and Bart Lewis made a storming fightback to take the Bermuda Darts Association open doubles tournament title.

The pair overcame their Queen's Club team-mates Brian Morris and Lenny Moniz 3-2 after trailing 0-2 in a thrilling final at the Spanish Point Boat Club.
