St David’s enjoy comfortable win
St David’s tore apart nine-man Devonshire Rec in an extremely one-sided Lindo’s Twenty20 clash at Lord’s yesterday.
The home side — strong favourites after retaining their Logic Premier League title last week — required just 19 balls to surpass Devonshire’s paltry score of 32 all out.
Rudell Pitcher was the star bowler, removing Lamar Caines with the second ball of the match and blowing away the top order as he claimed five for 12.
With Del Hollis, Ricky Foggo and Kameron Fox providing tidy support, Rec were only able to stretch their innings to 13 overs.
It would have been even worse were it not for Kenny Phillips, the visiting batsman, who made a run-a-ball 19 as the rest of the side collapsed around him.
When Phillips was caught by Delyone Borden off Pitcher, he had scored all but one of Devonshire’s 20 for six. After four of the top six made ducks, the inevitable was at least delayed by some stubborn blocking down the order.
Sammy Robinson and George O’Brien, the St David’s openers, effortlessly whittled away the required runs with some crisp hitting.
Oladapo Frederick, the Devonshire captain, did not need any reminders that it was not his day as he desperately tried to plug gaps by shuffling his depleted side around the field.
He was given one anyway, when O’Brien was bowled by Phillips — only for the umpire to signal no ball, resulting in a free hit which O’Brien clattered for four. Phillips did eventually get his man, but by then St David’s needed just two more runs for victory.
