Man denies stealing wine and wallet

A 41-year-old man has denied stealing $147 worth of goods from a Sandys residence, claiming he was drunk and doesn’t remember committing the offence.

Ian Raynor, of Sandys, pleaded not guilty to stealing a bottle of $20 cabernet wine and a $50 wallet containing two debit cards, a credit card, and cash of various currencies.

“I was drunk. I can’t remember,” Mr Raynor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo when asked for his plea at Magistrates’ Court today.

“That’s a not guilty plea, then,” Mr Tokunbo told Mr Raynor.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told the court Mr Raynor is currently on probation for another crime and is required to wear an electronic monitoring device and submit to a curfew.

She said the electronic monitoring device showed Mr Raynor to have been at the scene when the alleged crime took place.

Mr Tokunbo remanded Mr Raynor into custody, adjourning trial until April 4.
